Full-day Trip and Guided Tour of Karlštejn Castle and the nearby “Little Amerika” quarry
Event organised for international staff and students of UCT Prague and their family members and friends
- When: Friday, April 10, 2026, from 9:20 am to 6:30 pm
- Venue: Castle Karlštejn, https://www.hrad-karlstejn.cz/en ,
- Meeting point: at 9:20 in front of the UCT Prague, B building at the corner of Šolínova and Zikova streets (or at 10:00 in the entrance hall of Smíchovské nádraží)
- How to get there: We will take the A metro line to Malostranská station, where we will transfer to tram no. 20 or 12 and continue to Smíchovské nádraží station. A train to Beroun departs from there at 10:24 am, which we will take for a 30‑minute ride to Karlštejn station. Then, it is a 40-minute uphill walk to the castle. Our guided tour is scheduled for 12:00 and will last one hour.
- What we´ll enjoy: We will explore the majestic Karlštejn Castle, founded in 1348 by Charles IV, King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor. He had the castle built as a secure place to safeguard the royal treasures, including the Imperial Regalia, holy relics, and state documents. After the castle tour, we will have a short refreshment. If the weather is favourable, we will then continue with a scenic 5 km hike to a viewpoint offering spectacular views of the flooded limestone quarry known as 'Little America'.
Guided by: The guided tour will be conducted in English by a professional castle guide. - How much it will cost: Entry to the castle costs 240 CZK for participants up to 24 years of age and 300 CZK for participants aged 25 and over.
